Author Guidelines

Scholarly, Feature Length Submissions

We welcome submissions of scholarly articles and book reviews. Authors may submit in any format of their choice initially, but with the understanding that the ultimate publication, if accepted for publication, will need to be formatted in APA.  Artiucle length should be around 8,000-10,000 words. 

We are most interested in feature length articles that demonstrate:

1) Rigorous theoretical underpinning

2) Incorporate quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method data analysis

3) Provide policy recommendations relevant to any aspect of migrant education and any of the three migrant education programs: MEP, HEP, and CAMP

Ways and Means Submissions

JME also invites pieces focused on the best practices of to any aspect of MEP, HEP, and CAMP, such as student recruitment, retention, advisement, and program management.

We are most interested in Ways and Means pieces that:

1) Are written by policy directors or programmatic staff affiliated with migrant education and the three respective programs.

2) Provide a clear demonstration of best practices related to student recruitment, retention, advisement, and program management.

3) Clearly demonstrate the overall efficacy of the practice as evidenced by either qualitative or quantitative data.

Community Voice Submissions

JME welcomes Community Voice submissions, which serve as a humanistic representation of everyday experiences of students, migrant workers, migrant families, and migrant communities.

We are most interested in Community Voice pieces that offer the following forms of representation:

1) Oral history and story telling

2) Photography

3) Visual Art

4) Music

5) Poetry

6) Any aspect of culture: food, clothing, celebrations, religious and spiritual celebrations

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
